With cool autumn nights (and in Columbus, a sprinkling of gray rainy days) one of my favorite warm drinks is apple cider or wine made with a good mulling spice. While I am, of course, biased, North Market Spices offers a great mulling spice. It’s very popular this time of year and is a favorite through the holidays.

This popular tradition is a centuries old practice developed in Europe. Mulling is the process of infusing juices, wines, cider, or brandy with spices and fruit flavors. The ingredients used vary but the result is always a delicious, warming drink.

I would recommend using 1 oz of our mulling spice per gallon of cider (or bottle of wine). Let it heat with the cider (or wine) in a tea ball or wrapped in cheesecloth and let it steep as you heat the liquid.

Come pick up some of our mulling spice to serve at your next bonfire, party or family gathering. It’s sure to delight your guests!
